  • Cloth nappies won't cost the future for our children's earth.
  • Cloth nappies can save you and your local council a lot of money.

Cost of disposable nappies:

$2,770 - 3,270Disposable nappies (6,000 - 6,500 over 2 years)
$3,550Nappy wrapper (to preserve baby's poos forever in plastic)

$6,320 - 6,820Total Cost per baby

On top of this there is the cost of disposing into the land fills all over New Zealand costing local authorities up to $600,000 pa. Most parents do not realize just how much they spend as the cost gets buried in the weekly grocery bill and by only purchasing one packet at a time, parents do not stop to add up the annual costs. Some children are left longer in their disposable nappies to meet the weekly nappy budget.

The average cost of a disposable nappy throughout your baby's nappy days is 61 cents each at a minimum of six changes per day (2190 nappies each year, the cost is $1335.90. Add to this the costs of disposable baby wipes and creams).

Cost of cloth nappies:

24 Semi folds $264.00
Over naps 4 of each size $208.00
12 Boosters $52.80
24 Liners $36.00
Washing 2.5 years $120.00
Dryer if used 2.5 years $240

Total nappying costs 2.5 years using Funky Bumz reusable nappy systems =$920

With using cloth nappies a child is able to associate the feeling of wetness and weeing and is more likely to toilet train earlier. Children are sometimes over the age of three and still wearing disposable nappies full time while some are over the age of 5 and still wearing a night time nappy. Add that to the cost of a child's nappy life.

Anyone who does the math will still agree that no matter which type of cloth nappy chosen the savings are significant. Using them again and again on a second or third child, saves even more. Then pass them on to a friend or sell them second hand.
